Welcome to the first newsletter of the Learning & Development Partnership

Welcome by Beverley Dubash and Ernie Lloyd.  The formation of LDP is an excellent example of how Devon LA is leading the field in terms of commissioning the services of the future.

SATs and public examination results 2009

Devon schools continued to post highly commendable results in this summer's SATs and public examinations. Of particular note is the relative performance of Devon schools and schools nationally and also the sustained trend of improving standards. Some of the outcomes for individual schools were simply outstanding. This bears witness to the professionalism and consistent hard work of leaders, staff, governors and pupils in Devon schools and settings.

Well done everyone!

Safeguarding

Safeguarding children is currently at the top of everyone's agenda following the publication of Lord Laming's update report in March in which he said 'Ofsted should revise the inspection and improvement regime for schools giving greater prominence to how well schools are fulfilling their responsibilities for child protection'. As a result Ofsted has recently published a new inspection framework and briefing for its inspectors. Safeguarding is now a limiting judgement in school inspections and a 'graded scale' has been in place since September 2009.

Find out how LDP has responded to this new focus on safeguarding practice.

E-Safety update

Technology has so much to offer in supporting teaching and learning, particularly in the area of communication and collaboration. A number of initiatives that LDP colleagues are involved in focus on the use of a range of technologies and tools from the use of Blogs, Wikis and Twitter to support literacy to the use of videoconferencing to support networking and collaboration.

E-Safety continues to be an ongoing concern of those who work with technology to support teaching and learning.
